Description

A beautiful color illustration that blends together the Four Pillars of Applied Educational Neuroscience:

– supporting the nervous system of adults and youth
– addressing coregulation
– relational touch points
– our physology as we rewire our perceptions of discipline

The Applied Educational Neuroscience framework is continually evolving as we are all learning together … The entangled roots represent how these pillars are inseparable from one another. Coregulation cannot happen without the awareness of the adult nervous system, touch points are based on those moments of coregulation, and understanding the language of our nervous system empowers teachers and students alike in understanding themselves and each other. In the graphic, the roots hold the connections of the 4 pillars. We see sensations at the roots, which is the basis of our understanding of how our external, internal, and relational environments impact our lives. We see the roots breaking old traditional paths of discipline based in obedience and control, as conscious and steady adults learn to read behaviors as indicators of the nervous system and meet our children and youth where they are. In the graphic we see our own biomimicry with nature; just as a forest needs pollinators, planters of seeds, and an entire ecosystem at work, so do our students and schools. Within our last pillar, we see the changing of the leaves. In understanding the language of our nervous system, we learn that the goal is not necessarily regulation, just as we know a tree can’t always stay green. Instead, the goal is listening to our nervous system’s wisdom, discovering when we are dysregulated or are in times of change and unrest, and learning to give ourselves, or ask for, what we need.
